The New Map of the Chilean Investor in the United States

In recent years I have witnessed something once unthinkable: Chilean families and entrepreneurs no longer viewing the United States as an aspirational destination, but as a natural extension of their wealth strategy.

I confirm it in every conversation with clients and colleagues: the U.S. has stopped being a dream and become a reality.

The generational leap of the Chilean investor.

If the priority used to be investing in apartments in Santiago or local funds, today the conversation revolves around Delaware vehicles, Miami accounts, and multifamily projects in Texas or Florida.

The second generation — more global and digital — no longer thinks about “sending money abroad,” but about building a legal and financial presence in solid jurisdictions.

The shift in mindset is enormous.

Institutions followed the movement.

#BCI opened its Miami office in the 1990s and, with the acquisition of #CityNationalBank, consolidated a platform that today serves Chilean families seeking U.S. banking. #BTGPactual, #Credicorp, and #LarrainVial have also built bridges for LatAm investors in international markets.

The ecosystem today is robust: private banking, legal advisory, tax structuring, and real estate transactions in the U.S.

As an international attorney, I have witnessed that transition firsthand: from families setting up their first LLC to designing multi-jurisdictional vehicles with trusts and family governance.

Behind every case there is a story: protecting what was built and passing on the legacy well.

Real estate — the protagonist.

The real estate sector is the great engine of this wave.

Florida, Texas, New York, and DC continue to attract Chilean capital seeking stable income and dollar-denominated coverage.

Many projects are “club deals” or private funds where Chileans act as strategic partners, not mere buyers.

They are not leaving; they are diversifying their risk map.

A personal observation.

Every time I accompany a Chilean investor through this process I notice the same mix: enthusiasm and anxiety.

Enthusiasm for growing in a stable market; anxiety about doing it right, without mistakes that later prove costly.

That is the challenge: investing is relatively easy; structuring correctly, not so much… doing it with judgment and vision makes the difference between owning an asset in Miami and building a solid wealth presence in the United States.
